Drama Ministries

Asbury Town Neck UMC
Drama Ministries

ATN enjoys ministering in drama whether it be comical plays written by Sis. Ruth Waters, Cantada play productions led by Dr. Cathy Porter (Minister of Music), a Sunday School Christmas play directed by our Sunday School Superintendent, a mime production directed by our dance ministry,  a drama production or 5 minute skits directed by Sis. Carla Flemings or hosting a Christian comedian to lighten our load.

Sis. Ruth Waters has written several scripts and has directed several plays.  To her credit and to list a couple that she is known for is: "The Gospel Train," and "The Big Meeting."  Both productions are hilarious.  ATN actors have performed these plays both on and off-site.

The mantra is that "a picture is worth a 1000 words."  God has given all of us gifts and talents.  It is something to see when the ATN family comes together to share a story in a production or sketch.

Throughout the year along side the pastor, there are times we may do a 5 minute skit to tie in a sermon series.  In the winter time, you can usually look forward to a musical cantada or Christmas Play.  In the early spring, we may have an Easter production.  We had a narration one year for Passover, and had Jesus ride in on a 'live' donkey.

Can anyone join the dance ministries? Yes. If we have a production that has been introduced feel free to get in touch with the contact people below.

ON behalf of the drama ministry, even though a production can be less than 5 minutes in length hours go into writing the script or locating the script.  In addition, for major productions, a lot of time has gone into musical selections, rehearsing music, reviewing scripts.  This being said, it is reasonable to expect actors and musical team to be commited to attending all  practices (in particular dress rehearsals) and to show evidence that they have rehearsed scripts, memorized songs and practiced ques for production.
The drama ministry in whatever form it takes is dedicated to excellence as they are ministering to the Lord and it is biblical to give Him nothing less than our best.

How often are productions done? Three or four times a year in some format.
Who can I see if I am interested in joining the drama ministry? Listen out for when you hear skits, dramas being announced and the contact persons name will always be announced.
Do you have a regular Sunday when skits are done? Unfortunately, at this time we do not. Skits are prepared to coincide with a particular theme and are typically done upon request.
How often are the rehearsal?
Rehearsals would be scheduled every week until the day of ministry production.
Is there a dress requirement? Most of our productions do have dress requirement.  These requirements would be announced in accordance to type of drama production.  Those participating in past dramas have been delighted to use their own creative juices to identify with the character they are representing.
Does it cost to belong to the drama ministry?  You may be asked to produce your own outfit.  For more elaborate outfits, the drama ministry may assist with funding the attire.
Are we expected to memorize lines? Absolutely when appropriate.  Reading from script is not acceptable and takes away from the production.  Narrators of course are the only exemption.
What about stage hands, lighting or sound?  We always can use assistance in these areas.  If your gifting is in this area please let us know.
What about set design?  Again, these added touches are great visuals.  If you have giftings in this area, please see any of the contacts below.

Who do I contact if I am interested in joining drama ministries?
Again, please listen out for an upcoming production.  The contact names will be announced.   Like with any ministry inquiry of the church, you can leave a message with the church secretary by calling: (410) 647-3461 or email: adminasst_atn1@verizon.net
