Dance Ministries

Asbury Town Neck UMC
Dance Ministries
The ATN dance ministry's  mission is to honor and worship God by encouraging, teaching, ministering and witnessing through the use of creative movement and dance. Every gesture, expression and action says something about the dancer's relationship with God. It interprets scripture, illustrates a theme, communicates a feeling and brings the Holy Spirit into motion. As a ministry, we are called to praise the Lord with dance and to worship the Lord in spirit and in truth. It is our goal to exalt the Lord through our Christian witness.

Asbury Town Neck has three age level groups that perform dance ministries
  1. From the Heart Dance Ministry - more seasoned older adult dance ministry (50+)
  2. Children's Dance Ministry - age 4 - 11
  3. Young adult dance ministry - high school, college aged and young adults
Can anyone join the dance ministries? Yes.  If you are interested or if your child is really interested in dancing, please see the appropriate contact person below.

ON behalf of the dance ministry,  even though a song may be 5-7 minutes in length in a given ministry production, the leaders  are committed to spending countless hours listening and choosing the appropriate music and dedicate countless hours and even weeks choregraphing routines for the dancers.  This being said, it is reasonable to expect dancers young and old to be commited to showing up to all the practices and to show evidence that they are devoted to practicing on their own - the routines.  The dance ministry is dedicated to excellence as they are ministering to the Lord and it is biblical to give Him nothing less than our best.

How often are the rehearsal?
Usually when either of these age level groups agree to minister at the church, a song is selected and a particular Sunday is selected, rehearsals would be scheduled every week until the day the dancers minister.
How long are the rehearsals? One and half hours to two hours every week until production.
How often does the dance ministry dance? Each group has its own schedule.  For the most part it is quarterly.  In addition, an individual group may be asked to dance on a special Sunday or an evening service.
Is there a dress requirement? Yes there is.  A leotard, undergarment, and a skirt is the main uniform for dance.  However, the leaders will also instruct you on what is to be worn under your attire so that your attire is appropriate.
Does it cost to belong to the dance ministry?  We ask that participants pay for their uniform; however, ATN does offer assistance when needed. Outside of the cost of the uniform, there are no other costs, no dues, no registration, etc.
Are there any other requirements?  Those wishing to become members of any of the three age level group dance ministries must commit to scheduled on-site rehrarsals and must be devoted to independent practice of dance routines. ATN dance leaders are pretty flexible and will discuss all other expectations with you.
