FAQ

What do  the United Methodist believe?  A quick answer to this can be found in what is called, "The Apostle's Creed."
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. AMEN.

MEMBERSHIP
How do I become a member of the United Methodist Faith?
The first step begins with a response to a membership invitation given every Sunday. It is there that you would make your declaration to become a member. Subsequently, we will be in contact with you concerning next steps which is just to inform you about the United Methodist Church. Lastly, you will be read in as a full member of Asbury Town Neck UMC.

BAPTISM
Does the United Methodist Faith require one to be baptized? It is biblical to be baptized.  After you have invited Jesus Christ into your heart, the next step is to become baptized.  The invitation to be baptized is not  introduced every Sunday so if you would like to be baptized, please contact either the ministerial staff, the pastor or call the church office 410-647-3461 to make the arrangments.

If you were *baptized as a baby in the United Methodist Faith, this was your baptism and it is NOT necessary to re-baptized.  As an alternative to a 're-baptism' of sorts, we encourage you to follow the process of rededication.

BABY/CHILD BAPTISM
In the United Methodist Church, we 'Baptize' our babies. Some denominations call this process  a 'Baby Dedication.' This is the first step in one's Christian development.  If you would like your baby or child to be baptized, please contact either the ministerial staff, the pastor or call the church office 410-647-3461 to make the arrangments.

CONFIRMATION
What is confirmaton? After our young people were baptized as a baby, the next step on their spiritual journey is to go through a process called, "Confirmation" usually at 12 years-old. This process assists them in learing the basics of living out their spiritual journey. Confirmation refers to the decision a person makes to respond to God's grace with intentional commitment, publicly reaffirming his or her baptismal vows before the congregation.

Most churches offer a deliberate time of weekly preparation before this service usually lasting anywhere from 12-18 weeks.  Confirmands learn about the meaning of Christian faith; the history and teachings and The United Methodist Church; and an explanation of the baptismal and membership vows they will be professing. If your child is between the ages of 11 and 14 and you would like to have them confirmed, please contact either the ministerial staff, the youth director, the pastor or call the church office 410-647-3461 to make the arrangments.

REDEDICATION
I am saved, was baptized and have stranded away from church and or the teachings of the Word and would like a fresh start, do you have any recommendations on what I need to do next?  The United Methodist faith has a process called, "rededication." At any given Sunday, you can come up front if you so desire and reaffirm (rededicate) your committment to follow Christ.  The pastor will lead you through this process ending with prayer.
